The Nightingale is a Hans Christian Andersen story about an emperor who becomes obsessed with the song of the nightingale. He is eventually given a gift of a music box bird which he comes to love more and neglects the nightingale. When death comes to claim him he realizes the music box cannot save him and calls upon on the nightingale whose beautiful song about life and growth causes even Death to recede.
